West Los Angeles Coffee Station Style

15 Apr

Hello, sweetener!

What a difference a day and about 2,000 miles make. Back in America’s heartland, we’re offered household sugar at our Trader Joe’s coffee tasting station. But in West Los Angeles, I was greeted at the coffee counter by Liquid Stevia and Blue Agave Sweetener.

Another way TJ’s knows its customers and makes it local.

On the trail for chai: Oregon delivers

18 Mar

… Oregon and Trader Joe’s, that is. All you coffee and tea diehards, this chai mix will give you a delicious alternative.

Oregon Chai from Trader Joe's

Oregon Chai runs hot and cold, and they’re both delicious

The box contains a chai concentrate. You mix it with milk or a milk substitute and heat or ice.

Today was really chilly and grey, ending in a “wintry mix” of rain and sleet. I heated up a mug of Oregon Chai and felt all snuggly and warm. One convenience is that you can modify the chai to your taste. If you like your chai sweet, use less milk. If you want it a little less sweet, use less chai and more milk (like I do).

Enjoy!

Thank you, Trader Joe’s.

Trader Joe’s Sipping Chocolate: Cocoa heaven

19 Oct

It’s Friday, and it’s time for the best drink of the week and of the season: hot chocolate. TJ’s offers a delicious selection. I mean, I am wowed!

Trader Joe’s Sipping Chocolate

Back story: I’d just tried another store’s hot chocolate, and I wasn’t a fan of how it tasted. So, I was scared that TJ’s version might not connect with my taste.

I was also a little worried that it would be overly sweet because sugar was listed as the first ingredient. The directions ask you to put three tablespoons of chocolate in heated milk, and then said to add more sugar, if needed. That sparked my curiosity. More sugar?

The milk was heated. The cocoa added. I sipped. Wow! Delicious flavor on the lighter side, yet rich and full. And not too sweet! I can see how someone might want to add more sugar, but for me, this was perfect.

NOTE: It’s meant to be a small, thick drink. Check out the photos in the sipping chocolate review below, under “Related Links.” However, I used a full cup of milk with three heaping spoonfuls of chocolate and loved it. So, enjoy it how you like and make it your own.

Trader Joe’s, thank you. Really. Thank you.

Another cuppa Joe from Trader Joe’s

5 Oct

Thanks once again to a sample at the tasting bar, I’ve added a new coffee to my list of faves from Trader Joe’s.

Dark Sumatra – a tasty brew

Trader Joe’s Dark Sumatra coffee is a delicious roast. The taste is closer to espresso than breakfast blend. Smooth, full of the caffeine we depend on in the morning and packed with the depth of flavor we hope for in every cup of Joe. This is a coffee to keep high on the shopping list!

Thank you, Trader Joe’s!

Another great TJ’s coffee discovery (thanks to the coffee tasting bar): Fair Trade Five Country Espresso.

Organic Fair Trade Five Country Espresso blend

I like many of the coffees I taste at Trader Joe’s, but I’m always looking for French Roast’s rivals. For me, this is a close cousin – maybe French Roast’s aunt’s kid on her mother’s side. That close.

Sipping a cup of “5C” is a great way to start the day, or end an evening…made even better when paired with a brownie bite or two, perhaps?

Have a great day and the start of a great week, everyone!

Thank you, Trader Joe’s.
